Common questions
Accentuate can’t hear me
Accentuate needs microphone access to score your speech. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, find Accentuate (under Apps on recent versions of iOS), and turn on Microphone. If it’s already on, close Accentuate and open it again.
My scores seem off
Scoring works best in a quiet room. Hold your iPhone about 20–30 cm (8–12 in) from your mouth, speak at a natural pace, and say the whole sentence. Background noise, music, or other voices can lower your score.
If a word was marked wrong and you’re sure you said it right, tap Did we get this right? under the feedback. It tells us where scoring needs work.
Do I need headphones?
For Shadowing, yes. You speak at the same time as the voice, and it’s much easier to hear it over your own. Lessons and the Practice tab work without them.
How do I get a Golden Voice?
In the Shadowing tab, open Setup (or tap Change once it’s done) and choose Golden Voice. It’s made from your assessment recordings, so there’s usually nothing new to record; if they’re too short, you’ll read a short paragraph. Making it needs an internet connection. If it doesn’t appear, email us and we’ll take a look.
How do I change my reminders?
Open Settings in Accentuate and choose Reminders: off, once a day, every other day, or once a week, at a time you pick. You can also manage Accentuate’s notifications in your iPhone’s Settings.
Can I use Accentuate on a new iPhone?
Yes. Sign in with Apple on the new iPhone and your progress comes back. Your recordings stay on the iPhone where you made them.
How do I delete my data?
Open Settings in Accentuate and tap Delete account. This deletes your account, the progress saved to it, and your Golden Voice. Deleting the app removes everything Accentuate stores on your iPhone, including your recordings.
If you can’t use the app, email us and we’ll delete your data within 30 days.
Privacy
Your voice is personal. Our Privacy Policy explains what Accentuate collects, which services process your recordings, and how to delete your data.
